Phoenix Scientific Industries (PSI) Ltd., Hailsham, East Sussex, concluded an agreement with the Central South University of Technology in Hunan Province, China, for the installation of a powder manufacturing facility. Powders will be manufactured for a wide range of engineering applications, but will focus on those that require especially fine and low oxygen powders, e.g. metal injection molding. At the heart of the facility is a close-coupled inert gas atomizer equipped with a 3182¿F (1750¿C) vacuum melting tilt and pour furnace and electrically heated tundish furnace from the standard Hermiga range. The system is the first from PSI to be equipped with gas heating technology, which enables atomization to take place using argon or nitrogen delivered at high pressure and temperatures up to 930¿F (500¿C).
