Techint Technologies, Genoa, Italy, successfully revamped a walking beam furnace at Luchini's plant in Piombino, Italy. Equalizing area improvements include top and bottom heating in place of a solid hearth and installation of new bottom burners with on-off firing technology. Bottom heating area improvements include a length increase and installation of two new burners in place of the existing exhaust gas exits, as well as relocation of the existing top and bottom zone screens. The revamp also entailed replacement of fixed and movable skids including relevant riders with an updated design. Skids also were modified and relocated for the area previously in the solid hearth. Techint renewed the existing skid's cooling system passing from an evaporative to close-circuit arrangement. Techint designed and supplied the system.
