According to the Metal Treating Institute (MTI), October 2001 sales for the metal treating industry amounted to $82.4 million, a jump of 9.7% over September 2001's total of $75.1 million. October sales were down 7.5% from the previous October when industry sales reached $89.1 million. For the year to date, commercial heat treaters' billings were $797.2 million, a decline of 6.9% from 2000's year-to-date total of $856.6 million.
