The North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) announced the winners of the 2001 International Die Casting Competition. The competition is divided into nine categories-four aluminum, two magnesium and three zinc. There were 34 entries this year with no entries in the electroplated zinc category. Judging is based on four equally-weighed criteria: ingenuity of the casting and/or product design, overall quality, cost savings and contribution to expanding the market for castings. This year's winners: Aluminum squeeze/semi-solid: independent rear suspension casting, SPX Corp.- Contech Div., manufactred for Visteon Corp. Aluminum under 1 lb: Endbell air compressor, Aallied Die Casting Co., produced for DeVilbiss Air Power Co. Aluminum 1 to 10 lbs: "B" pillar casting, Alcan BDW GmbH & Co. KG. Aluminum over 10 lbs: lower crankcase casting, J.V. Murcott & Sons Ltd. Zinc under 6 oz/non-electroplated: front plate I-20, Bruschi S.p.A. Zinc any size coated: casting with bracket, Dynacast Inc. Magnesium Under 0.5 lb: frame, Product Technologies Inc., manufactured for Novatel Wireless Technologies Ltd. Magnesium over 0.5 lb: cross car beam for instrument panel, Lunt Manufacturing Co. Inc., manufactured for General Motors.
