Stanadyne Automotive Corp. installed a 10-bar high-pressure quench furnace with advanced computer control system from Seco/Warwick Corp., Meadville, Pa., for use in its heat-treat operation in Windsor, Conn. The model 10.VPT 4035/36 furnace features a 24 in. x 24 in. x 36 in. hot zone and 1,320-lb load capacity. The system heats by convection and provides three key benefits: (1) hardening and tempering can be accomplished in a single process cycle in the same furnace; (2) guaranteed clean work pieces, even after tempering, which facilitates other processing such as nitriding and electromachining; and (3) reduced energy consumption per pound of workload in comparison to the traditional treatment methods.
