Belmont Metals Inc., Brooklyn, N.Y., installed a Spectro Ciros-CCD inductively coupled plasma spectrometer with a SASSy spark ablation sample introduction system. It is the first U.S. installation with the SASSy attachment. With this attachment, Belmont can quantitatively measure virtually any element on the periodic table down to less than 1 part-per-million. Because the samples are analyzed in solid form, it avoids the contamination issues that may arise when samples are dissolved in acid to detect tramp elements.
