Saukville-based Charter Steel Inc. (http://www.chartersteel.com) will build a $90 million steel melting facility on the site of its bar and rod rolling mill in Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio, near Cleveland. Charter officials said the expansion project, which includes an electric arc furnace and billet casting facility, is expected to be completed by April 2006. Steel from the new facility will support Charter's bar and rod rolling operations at the 250-acre site. The Cuyahoga Heights rolling plant produces bar and rod for fasteners and other components for the automotive industry. Currently, Charter Steel relies on billets cast at its melting operations in Saukville and also purchases billets from other steelmakers.
