Special Metals Inc., New Hartford, NY, has raised prices on nickel-alloy products by 3 percent to 8 percent to take advantage of increases in demand. The company has raised the prices of air-melted alloys used in bar, billet, ingot and wire rod products by 3 percent to 5 percent. The price of vacuum-melted alloys has increased by 8 percent and superalloy sheet, strip and plate prices has increased by 9 percent. The company said demand for nickel-alloy products from the aerospace, power generation and oil and gas exploration industries is so strong that they had to extend "lead times" on delivery dates for orders to nearly double what they were previously.
