Surface Combustion Receives Authorization To Build Thermal System For Russian Plant
June 2, 2004
Surface Combustion (Maumee, Ohio) received authorization to proceed on the build phase of a thermal system for the decontamination of metal munitions shells at a Russian plant. The system will destroy thousands of tons of deadly chemical munitions from an old Soviet era Arsenal. The prime contract for the facility is with Parsons, an engineering and construction organization headquartered in Pasadena, Calif., and Surface Combustion is a subcontractor on this project. The plant will be located in Shchuch'ye (Southern Urals), just north of Kazakhstan. Surface Combustion's scope of work on the project includes all engineering, procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, shipment and commissioning of the systems. The engineering phase was completed in early 2003. The equipment consists of a sealed multichamber oscillating roller hearth furnace, automated conveyor system and rich fume type afterburner and residence chamber for complete thermal destruction of system off gases.
