Alcoa to Start Up Idle Smelter Capacity
Alcoa (Pittsburgh, Pa.; www.alcoa.com), a producer primary and fabricated aluminum and alumina, plans to restart production it idled in April 2003 at its two Massena, N.Y. smelters. The restart will take about three months to complete and is expected to generate 10,000 metric tons of aluminum this year. Upon completion, the two smelters will be operating at capacity. About 45 persons will be added as part of the restart effort, bringing total employment in Massena to approximately 1,310.
