Employment Up In April; March Numbers Revised
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that non-farm payroll employment increased by 288,000 in April. Revised numbers for March were also released, showing a gain of 337,000 (29,000 higher than the 308,000 previously stated). Brink Lindsey, director of the Cato Institute's Center for Trade Policy Studies, had this to say about the new employment figures: "The job market looks to be recovering, finally, from the 2001 recession. The recent surge in productivity growth delayed the recovery, but an eventual rebound was inevitable."
