GE Gets Navy Contract
The Navy has given General Electric Co. a $418 million contract to provide 86 engines, plus spare parts, to power the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet jets. The F414-GE-400 engines are to be produced at GE's factory at GE's factory in Lynn, Mass. The contract is to be completed by 2003. It is the most recent contract in the Navy's long-term plan to buy a total of 1,046 F414-GE-400 engines, plus spares, for 548 of the jets. The Navy has already bought 213 of the engines. Of those 116 are in service on the 47 F/A-18E/F jets at the Lemoore and China Lake naval air stations in California.
