Allegheny Technologies, Pittsburgh, Pa., announced a project designed to reduce operating costs and increase productivity at the Allegheny Ludlum melt shop in Brackenridge, Pa. The company plans to install two new high-powered electric arc furnaces and related equipment at a cost of approximately $35 million. Project highlights include the installation of two new 110-ton electric arc furnaces with the first furnace expected to be operational in December 2003 and the second furnace in December 2004.
