Techint Technologies, Pittsburgh, Pa., successfully installed and started up a new walking beam reheat furnace for the Steckel type rolling mill for discrete and coiled hot rolled plate at Ipsco Steel in Alabama. The turnkey order included engineering, fabrication and installation. The furnace is designed to heat 6 in. thick slabs up to 125 in. wide and 63 ft long to a discharge temperature of 2350ÝF. Slabs may be single or double row charged. Techint also supplied the charge machine, extractor, roll tables, as well as Level 1 and Level 2 supervisory controls with online thermal modeling.
