Thermal Process Economic Indicators--Activity Slows in August
Industrial Heating magazine's monthly Economic Indicators showed across the board declines in September. The two indices hardest hit were Request for Quotations and Number of Orders. Backlogs and the General Health of the Thermal Processing Industry also showed declines. September index numbers, released yesterday, reflect the changes experienced by responding companies from July 2002 to August 2002. Request for Proposal Index fell from 54.6 in August to 46.9 in September, Number of Orders Index decreased from 52.8 in August to 47.6 in September, Size of Backlog Index dropped from 47.8 in August to 47.1 in September, and General Health of the Thermal Processing Industry Index fell from 48.7 in August to 46.3 in September. A number above 50 indicates increased activity.
