Premier Furnace Specialists, Wixom, Mich., manufactured and installed a gas fired pit carburizing furnace for a commercial heat treating operation. The company where the furnace was installed was not disclosed. The furnace is designed to accept a 60 in. diameter x 72 in. high load with a gross total weight (including fixture) of 15,000 pounds. The furnace will operate at temperatures of 1500 to 1700 F with a maximum temperature of 1950 F. The gross burner input through eight vertical radiant tubes, uniformly spaced near the sidewalls, is 1,600,000 BTUs. The furnace will use an endothermic gas atmosphere at approximately 700 CFH and is controlled by a freestanding NEMA 12 pre-wired enclosure housing all necessary electrical components to operate and monitor the furnace.
