According to a report published by the Metal Treating Institute (MTI), the metal treating industry had sales of $77.4 million in May 2002, down 4.2 percent from May 2001 sales of $80.8 million. Cumulative billings for 2002 reached $373.4 million, off 5.8 percent from the 2001 total of $396.6 million. Five districts (south central, Michigan, southeast, north central and Canada) reported increased sales in May. For the year, two districts (Michigan and southeast) outperformed 2001.
