Firth Rixson Ltd. (Sheffield, UK; www.firthrixson.com), a provider of highly engineered forged, cast and other specialty metal products and a holding of The Carlyle Group, signed an agreement to begin construction of a 50,000 square foot facility near Shanghai, China. The plant, which will be a subsidiary of Firth Rixson Ltd., will forge and process seamless alloy rings for aerospace applications. The new facility is the first of two projects the company is undertaking in China. The second joint venture is an agreement with a Chinese manufacturing company that calls for both companies to operate a heat treatment and machining facility near Guiyang, China.
