Techint Technologies, Pittsburgh, Pa., received a contract from Midrex for the design and supply of a 44 ft. diameter rotary hearth furnace. The furnace will be a part of the Mesabi Nugget Ironmaking Pilot Demonstration Plant (PDP) located in Silver Bay, Minn. The plant will use Kobe Steel's new ironmaking technology (ITmk3 process), which uses the rotary hearth furnace to convert iron ore fines into a pure iron nugget form.
