Air Products (Lehigh Valley, Pa.; www.airproducts.com) sold a PRISM high-purity nitrogen (HPN) system to A.O. Smith Corp.'s (based in Milwaukee, Wis.) Mt. Sterling, Ky., plant, which manufactures steel laminations for use in electrical motors. The HPN system with a capacity of 48,000 standard cubic feet per hour of gaseous nitrogen replaces the existing natural gas exothermic generators. The nitrogen is used in annealing, decarburizing and steam blueing laminations, and also is combined with hydrogen from an Air Products liquid hydrogen storage and delivery system.
