Micro-MeltR CD #1 alloy is designed to be used in coining and cold-work tooling applications. Wear resistance comes from the material's good hardness and vanadium, chromium and molybdenum carbides. The steel can be heat treated in a salt bath and vacuum and controlled atmosphere furnaces and secondary hardened at 950F (510C). Hardness levels up to 61-62 HRC can be achieved with low residual stress in the cold-work tools and coining dies made of the material.
