Refractory sheet type RS-A moldable ceramic fiber reinforced insulation contains no asbestos and is suitable for use in high temperature, high thermal shock applications. It is a wet blanket that can easily be formed into a wide variety of simple and complex shapes. Drying results in a strong rigid shape, which can be rewetted to restore original moldability. Firing irreversibly removes the moldability, leaving the material unaffected by moisture. The insulation's high alumina (Al2O3) content makes it resistant to sticking in many environments, including molten metals. It has a maximum operating temperature of 2640F (1450C).
