United Process Controls (UPC) was selected to upgrade the furnace
controls at Burgess-Norton’s powder-metal plant in Geneva, Ill. UPC supplied
Protherm-based controls for an Ipsen pusher furnace. The new controls use the
Protherm 600 to monitor and control furnace-line operations, including
temperature, carbon potential, push time with temperature and atmosphere
tolerance, quench-oil temperature, washer temperature and draw-furnace
temperature. An independent chart recorder was also interfaced to the Protherm
600 for automatic redundant storage of the backup archives.
