When trying to determine a material’s response
to heat treatment, it is important to understand the form, prior treatments,
chemical composition, grain size, hardenability and perhaps even the mechanical
properties from which the parts were manufactured. The certification sheet for
the material in question supplies such information.
Check out the January 2016 issue of Industrial Heating, which includes a cover story on case hardening, as well as articles on using failure analysis to discover and mitigate crack propagation, applications and properties of vacuum oil quenching, and much more.
