IH Economic Indicators: Indices Continue Meteoric Rise

Industrial Heating's monthly economic indicators for March 2012 showed growth for the second straight month. More importantly, all four indices increased from February and all four were over 57 for the first time in almost six years (April 2006). The change in the number of request for quotes (61.4) and the change in backlog (60.3) were at their highest levels since February 2006, a span of more than 72 months. The change in the number of orders was at its highest level since January 2011. March 2012’s numbers:
  • Change in number of request for quotes from Jan. to Feb. – 61.4
  • Change in number of orders from Jan. to Feb. – 58.4
  • Change in backlog from Jan. to Feb. – 60.3
  • Expected change in the health of the industry through March – 57.2
March 2012’s index numbers reflect the changes experienced by responding companies as they compare their February 2012 business levels to their January 2012 levels. A number above 50.0 indicates increased activity or growth. A number below 50.0 indicates decreased activity or a decline in growth. Look for these numbers, along with historical values, in April 2012’s Industrial Heating.
