IH Economic Indicators: February Numbers Through the Roof

Industrial Heating's monthly economic indicators for February 2012 showed extraordinary growth from January 2012’s numbers, as all four indices were over 54. The change in the number of orders (56.1), the change in backlog (54.6) and the expected change in the health of the industry (54.8) were all at their highest levels since January 2011, a span of 13 months. Meanwhile, the change in the number of request for quotes was at its highest level (57.3) since March 2011. February 2012’s numbers:
  • Change in number of request for quotes from Dec. to Jan. – 57.3
  • Change in number of orders from Dec. to Jan. – 56.1
  • Change in backlog from Dec. to Jan. – 54.6
  • Expected change in the health of the industry through Feb. – 54.8
February 2012’s index numbers reflect the changes experienced by responding companies as they compare their January 2012 business levels to their December 2011 levels. A number above 50.0 indicates increased activity or growth. A number below 50.0 indicates decreased activity or a decline in growth. Look for these numbers, along with historical values, in March 2012’s Industrial Heating.
