SMS Demag Starts Up Steel Plant in Russia

SMS Demag has commissioned an X-Melt electric steel plant with an annual capacity of 1 million tons at the Polevskoy location for Russia’s OAO Severskij Tube (TMK Group). SMS Demag’s scope of supply comprised an ARCCESS 135-ton electric-arc furnace, including the complete electrical equipment and higher-level process sequence control and the technological process model for the furnace operations. The ARCCESS furnace is characterized by the optimized use of electrical power and burner/oxygen-injector technology.

SMS Demag, a company of the SMS Group, also supplied a scrap-yard plant and equipment, the gas cleaning plant, and additive supply system and injection systems for lime, carbon and filter dust. The TMK Group is one of Russia’s largest producers of pipe steel grades for the oil and gas industries.
