Solar Manufacturing (Souderton, Pa.) received an order for two horizontal vacuum furnaces from a powder metal supplier in the northwest United States. The furnaces have work zones measuring 24 inches wide x 24 inches high x 48 inches deep and a gross load capacity of 2,000 pounds. The furnaces also feature molybdenum-shielded hot zones for operating temperatures up to 1450°C (2642°F). Molybdenum heating elements will heat workloads rapidly, meeting AMS 2750D specifications. An external gas-quench system will consist of a 10-HP motor, fan wheel, heat exchanger and diffuser with the pumping system being used for high vacuum applications up to 10(-6) Torr.
