SECO/WARWICK sold a pit nitriding furnace equipped with ZeroFlow technology to P&L Heat Treating & Grinding for its Youngstown, Ohio, commercial heat-treat facility. The furnace will accommodate a fixtured load of up to 5,500 pounds with a retort 39 inches in diameter x 78 inches deep. The furnace will be equipped with an Inconel retort, internal recirculation fan, sinuous loop heating elements and a PLC control system.

The nitriding of steel using the ZeroFlow method allows precise forming of nitrided layers with respect to the required phase structure, zone thicknesses and hardness distribution. In controlled tests, this furnace design reduced process-gas consumption using a simplified, inexpensive process adjustment and control system producing consistent, repeatable heat-treatment results. P&L Heat Treating specializes in providing heat-treating processes for aluminum extrusion tooling, forge dies and castings in addition to standard commercial heat-treating services.
