Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will install a new vacuum decarburization plant at Taiyuan Iron & Steel Co.’s (Tisco’s) steel works in the Shanxi Province. It will be designed as a double system with a capacity of 180 metric tons, making it one of the largest plants of its type in the world. The new plant will feature a special copper ladle cover that is designed to substantially reduce the formation of slag skulls on the upper part of the furnace. The plant is scheduled to come into production in mid-2011.

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies received an order from Russian Metalloinvest Holding to supply a new vacuum degassing plant to JSC Ural Stal Works. The plant is designed as a twin station with a capacity of 120 metric tons. It is due to go into operation at the end of 2011. The order also includes an adaptation of the alloying station and the construction of the steel supporting structures for the degassing plant and vacuum pump.
