Posco recently broke ground for Posco-AAPC, a 120,000-metric-ton/year processing facility in Birmingham, Ala. The facility, which will produce automobile and electric plates, is scheduled to open in July. According to Posco, the processing center will lay a foundation for its North American business, in association with Posco Mexico CGL, a new continuous galvanizing line plant.

Posco plans to enhance its sales capabilities in the region, especially for Japanese and European automakers there. The company noted that Birmingham is an emerging hub for the global auto industry. Posco plans to build new production facilities in India and Indonesia in the future.
