Charter Steel awarded a contract to Techint Technologies, Pittsburgh, Pa., for a 31.5 tons-per-charge Short Time Cycle (STC) furnace. Charter will use the furnace to add production capacity for annealing wire and rod coil at its plant in Rising Sun, Ohio. The added capacity is required to handle a new rolling capacity Charter acquired from the recent purchase of the American Steel and Wire plant in Cleveland, Ohio. Start up of the furnace is scheduled for the third quarter of 2002.
